Chinese New Year Events throughout Vancouver -Lion Dances, Parades, Full of New Year Performances

 ‘Shunsetsu’ or Chinese New Year events were held throughout Vancouver areas on January 31st. Lion dances, traditional arts and parades were performed at shopping malls and urban areas. A lot of citizens enjoyed cheerful Chinese style New Year.

 ‘Shunsetsu’ is known as ‘Chinese New Year’ in North America, too. This year January 31st fell on the New Year. Announcers of TVs and radios greeted ‘Cong Hey Fat Choy’ or ‘Wish your prosperity’ in Chinese. Red and gold decorations for the New Year were put in shop counters. The Chinese culture spread to citizens other than Chinese Canadians.

 Every year about fifty thousand audience gathered to see parades in China Town. Lion dances and traditional arts were performed in Aberdeen Centre, Oakridge Centre, Richmond Centre and Vancouver International Airport. Concerts were also held. A lot of families enjoyed the events for the New Year throughout Vancouver.

 Relevant events are going to be held until the 10th throughout Vancouver: Lion Dance in UBC Asian Centre Auditorium (on the 7th), ‘CIBC Lunar Fest in Vancouver Art Gallery (from 7th to 9th) and a concert to be held by VSO (on the 8th).
