A travel agency ‘NaviTOUR Vancouver’ (910-470 Granville Street, Tel: 604-682-5885) started to sell white matsutake (pine mushroom)to Japan as a sales broker at the middle of September. It is from Canada and dealt at Joe Chung’s Mushroom Ltd in Richmond.

A high quality grade 1 mushroom ‘Tsubomi,’ whose cap isn’t open, is sold for Japan. The feature of matstake from Canada is fragrant. ‘Taste of Canada matsutake is closest to Japanese one than that of from China and Korea sold in Japan.’ (NaviTOUR director Masakazu Nakafuji).

It depends on harvesting status, but it is delivery to Japan from about five days to a week after the order. Mr. Nakafuji says, ‘Freshness is vital for matsutake. We can deliver fresh and flavorful one because of the direct shipping from Canada to customers’ house.’ He also says, ‘We’d like our customers to make use of this opportunity.’

Price: 1 lb. (about 450 g, 6 to 10 matsutake) = CAD 100 (including shipping cost and taxes), 2 lb. = CAD 170. They can receive matsutake at NaviTOUR Vancouver (need reservation). It will be sold until the middle of October.
